With the VISION VXP subs, ESX presents a new high-end woofer series for which a great deal of effort has already been put into the drawing board. Important components such as the aluminum basket, voice coil and cone were completely redesigned in order to achieve the development goal – high-end subwoofers with a shallow installation depth – without compromise. No sooner said than done, virtually nothing is “off the shelf”, so in addition to the cone, a further 12 components were specially re-tooled. The effort is particularly evident in the independent cast aluminum basket with integral magnet drive and the newly shaped honeycomb cone.

Thanks to generously equipped voice coils with diameters of 50 mm for the 8-inch and an even larger 65 mm for the 10-inch, the subwoofers have an extremely high power handling capacity of 300 and 400 watts RMS respectively. The high values are also due to the use of a special 32 mm long CCAW coil, which sits on an extremely light glass fiber carrier. Due to the low mass and also thanks to the powerful dual magnet, it was possible to achieve a further 2dB more efficiency.

Flat woofers have the disadvantage that, due to their design, conventional cone diaphragms do not fit because there is simply not enough installation depth. So only flat cones remain. However, these are very susceptible to torsion if they only consist of one layer. ESX solves this problem with the extremely stable construction of the multi-layer VXP cones, which are reinforced with glass fiber on both sides on the outside and also have a rigid honeycomb structure on the inside. Both woofers prefer small, closed enclosures.
